Five people have been arrested following a smash and grab at an Auckland clothing store, as the city continues to deal with a crime wave.
Police said they received a report of a group of people breaking into the clothing store Subtype on Broadway at about 2:10am on Thursday.
"Police attended but the offenders fled the scene in a stolen vehicle," a police spokesperson said.
"The police helicopter Eagle kept observation on the vehicle, until it came to a stop on Capstick Road, Otara. Police located all five passengers, who were taken into custody."
Police said the five males arrested were aged between 17-25 and will appear in court on Thursday morning charged with burglary.
The spokesperson said enquiries are still ongoing.
Footage from the scene showed an officer inside the store inspecting the damage to cabinets, while two security guards stood outside.
It comes after at least four criminal incidents in Auckland on Wednesday - including a smash-and-grab at the Michael Hill jewellery store, also in Newmarket - and at least seven burglaries on Tuesday.
