Aucklanders are waking up to another morning of "extreme fog", which is causing travel disruptions around the city, while wild weather will lash the South Island over the next 24 hours.
For the second consecutive day flights have been disrupted in Auckland as thick fog blankets the city.
Fog restrictions are in place at Auckland Airport with travellers urged to check with their airline for any flight disruptions.
Auckland Airport said approximately 24 domestic regional flights have been cancelled and two delayed because of the fog.
Currently, no international flights have been affected.
It comes a day after a total of 34 regional flights were delayed or cancelled between Auckland and regional centres because of the fog.
Auckland Transport is warning ferry commuters to expect delays on all services and to allow extra travel time with extreme fog settling in the harbour.
Auckland drivers are being urged to take care on the roads as thick fog makes driving conditions tough.
"Another very foggy morning, so with the reduced visibility today please remember to keep your headlights on and mind your following distance this morning," Waka Kotahi said on Twitter.
MetService said fog and low cloud over the North Island would hang around for most of the morning before clearing for a fine afternoon.
The South Island doesn't escape the bad weather with torrential rain and gale-force winds will batter the region.
A heavy rain warning is in place for Westland, Fiordland, and the headwaters of the Canterbury and Otago lakes and rivers for Friday and Saturday.
MetService warns that heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, surface flooding and slips are also possible, while driving conditions may be hazardous.
Westland could see up to 260mm of rain, while the headwaters of the Canterbury lakes and rivers will also get battered with 220mm of rain expected.
A strong wind warning is also in place for the Canterbury High Country, Canterbury Plains, Christchurch and the Banks Peninsula, Fiordland, Southland, Stewart Island and Otago.
MetService said northwest gales are forecast to be severe at times for the Canterbury High Country, with damaging gusts of 140 to 150km/h in exposed places.
All other areas under the wind warning could see wind up to 130km/h.
