Another cold blast is forecast to hit the South Island today, with freezing temperatures and fresh dumps of snow.
A cold front is moving up from Southland bringing with it snow warnings and possible travel disruptions.
Metservice reports there are severe weather warnings in place for much of the South Island on Sunday, and the front is expected to reach Wellington by the evening.
Weatherwatch says inland areas of the South Island could see heavy snowfalls, with lighter falls towards the coast.
In good news for skiers, the Canterbury mountains are forecast to get a decent dump of powder.
Weatherwatch says in the South Island all Alpine passes are expected to be hit by snow, while the Desert Road on the North Island could be disrupted.
Road warnings have been issued for Sunday afternoon for Lindis Pass, Porters Pass and Arthur’s Pass, and from Sunday evening for Lewis Pass. Road warnings have also been issued for Dunedin to Waitati Highway, Milford Road, the Crown Range Road and Haast Pass.
Another front hitting the North Island is forecast to bring rain to Auckland, but there are no warnings in place for the region.
