Leo Molloy spoke to the media on Friday afternoon after announcing he has pulled out of the Auckland mayoral race.
Molloy is known for his bold personality and for not being afraid to speak his mind no matter what the topic is and the press conference around him leaving the mayoral race was nothing short of entertaining.
Here are the ten breakout moments.
Number one: 'Suspending rather than resigning'
When asked by Newshub why he had decided to resign he said his campaign poster has 2025 written on it: "It may well be a case of suspending rather than resigning."
Number Two: 'Ethically compromised'
Molloy made the decision to resign and pull out of the race as he felt that if he stayed in the race it wouldn't be worth it.
"If we stayed in beyond lunchtime today ethically I was compromised because I could easily be guilty of orchestrating a result of an election if my heart, mind, passion and resources were not fully committed."
Number Three: Compared the mayoral election to Princess Diana's marriage.
"I thought that we had a stare-down from the centre-right candidates. It ended up being a bit like Princess Diana's marriage where it was a bit crowded at times and I was the person who had tried to steer them all down, I would step away."
Number Four: Feels for comedian Guy Williams
When Newshub asked if comedian Guy Williams's New Zealand Today interview with him had an effect on Molloy's polling results, he didn't seem to think it did.
"I think he's been hard done by by his fellow wokesters and I will always be there and always support him."
Number Five: Backing another candidate?
During the press conference, Molloy said it would be hard to pick a candidate to back.
"Everyone has some redeeming features but is any one of them the whole package? Probably not."
He also added endorsing a candidate could involve some negotiations.
Number Six: The campaign bus
The former mayoral candidate purchased a bus during his campaign to try and promote his run.
Molloy asked the people in the press conference if they wanted to buy it.
"Did you want to buy it? Happy to sell it. I might turn into a campervan and travel the South Island."
Number Seven: Mortified by results
"I was mortified we just didn't see that coming," Molloy said during the press conference.
He added they had been working all week recruiting staff and did not see it coming when the poll results came through.
Number Eight: Attacks Efeso Collins
When asked about the other candidates Molloy made it clear he did not support mayoral candidate Efeso Collins.
"Efeso's been on the umbilical cord of his working career and he's made out he's employed."
Number Nine: 'Media are like predators'
The former mayoral candidate said he struggled to get to sleep because he had to read things before bed to make sure he wasn't blindsided by the media.
"You're like predators. You're like vultures circling the sky for a carcass and I don't want to be your carcass."
He added politics is so dynamic that the campaign started off by discussing the issues of public transport and now it is discussing law and order.
Number Ten: 'No Skeletons in my cupboard'
When asked if there was any alterer motive for dropping out of the race other than the poll results he denied it.
"If I had anything to hide you would've found it by now. I have no skeletons in my cupboard."
The former mayoral candidate said he wanted to go to Fiji on Friday night rather than stay in Auckland.
