Prince William and Kate have sent a heartfelt message to New Zealand as Nelson continues to be ravaged by heavy rain and widespread flooding.
As hundreds of South Island residents spent another night out of their homes after being evacuated because of wild weather, the royals took to Twitter saying they "are thinking about all those affected".
In the message, Prince William also urged everyone to come together to fight the battle against climate change.
"Seeing the devastation caused by the floods in New Zealand is a reminder of the herculean effort we must all make to protect our planet," a post on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official Twitter account said.
"I know you will come together, as you have done before, to support those in need. Catherine and I are thinking about all those affected."
A $200,000 relief fund was announced for the Nelson-Tasman region to help with the extensive damage caused by flooding, with Mayor Rachel Reese saying the recovery will take years.
The Nelson District remains under a red heavy rain warning until at least 11am on Saturday, with MetService warning the area could see another 200mm of rain.
