With winter winding down and spring starting on Thursday, Kiwis are getting an early treat with blue and sunny skies for most over the weekend.
Winter has been wild in New Zealand this year with heavy rain, flooding, gale-force winds and snow which has left some communities in clean-up mode.
A massive clean-up is underway at the top of the South Island after major flooding, which is described as likely the "biggest recovery ever faced" in the Marlborough region.
More than 150 homes in Marlborough and Nelson have been red-stickered after flooding from heavy rain caused by an "atmospheric river".
But that wild weather is turning to calm conditions with most places around the country seeing fine weather on Saturday.
"A low moves away to the east of the North Island today, leaving a southerly flow over the country. Although most places should get a dry weekend, some showers are also expected, mainly in eastern areas of the North Island," MetService said.
For fans going to the All Blacks v Argentina test match in Christchurch on Saturday night, they can expect a partly cloudy evening with a chilly temperature of 8C.
Kiwis can expect more of the same on Sunday with only a few showers in the eastern parts of the country expected.
"How's Sunday looking? Not too bad for most. There will be some cloud and a few showers, mainly for eastern areas, but there should be plenty of sunny areas too," MetService said.
The warm weather also saw "record-breaking heat" in Westport on Friday.
"The mercury got up to 19.3C around 3pm smashing the previous August record at the airport," MetService said.
