NIWA is warning of a wet end to the week for some regions across the motu that have already been hit by a deluge of rain.

Meteorologist Ben Noll told Newshub the rainmaker will hit during the second half of Thursday and into the night.

"There's an opportunity for a burst of rain, it could rain heavily for a short period of time."

The regions likely to be hit by the rainmaker will be those across the North Island and the north and east of the South Island, regions already saturated by relentless rain earlier this week.

"Any additional rainfall is probably not welcomed at this point," Noll said. "Regions that had been impacted by the flooding will see rainfall."

Noll told Newshub that with already-sodden soil, more rain could exacerbate vulnerable infrastructure.

"Only a little bit of rainfall may cause local issues," he said.

Going into the weekend though, Noll said it is looking "pretty good" with only isolated showers seen along the east coast of the North Island.

"But otherwise a well-deserved quiet weather weekend."
