Parts of New Zealand can expect another few wild weather days with strong winds and rain set to lash southern and central areas on Tuesday through to the weekend.
MetService has heavy rain warnings in place for Fiordland, Canterbury, Westland, Buller and Tasman west of Motueka while strong wind watches were also in place for Otago, Southland, Canterbury including the High Country, Marlborough Sounds and Wairarapa.
Strong winds could become severe northwest gales in Southland between Wednesday and Friday, the forecaster said.
"There is low confidence of northwesterlies rising to severe gale in exposed places of Otago except Clutha and Canterbury High country on Wednesday, then the confidence increases to moderate on Friday," MetService said. "There is also moderate confidence of severe northwest gales in Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa including the Tararua District early on Wednesday, then from late Friday to Saturday."
The warnings come after areas of the South Island were blanketed with snow at the weekend, which followed a week of heavy rain and flooding for many areas.
Despite the warnings for later in the week, Christchurch will get some reprieve from the wild weather on Wednesday and Thursday before the strong winds and rain pick up again on Friday and Saturday.
It's a similar story in Dunedin, with fine weather expected over the next couple of days before showers and strong northerly winds set in on Friday.
