Armed police have swarmed a west Auckland suburb after reports of gunshots in the area.
There is a police cordon in place on the corner of Harbour View Road and Gunner Drive in Te Atatu after locals reported hearing gunshots from a house on Gunner Drive.
Residents posted on social media about the incident with one person saying they heard five "loud bangs" just after 6am before police cars flooded the area. The resident said officers could be seen holding rifles.
In a statement just before 10am, police said they have not found a firearm and there are no reports of any injuries.
Another resident said he tried to go through the cordon but was stopped, and could see armed officers "door knocking looking for someone by the looks of it".
Residents are also reporting the police K-9 unit is on the scene.
Police said they are working to establish what has occurred.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 105 referencing event number P051804098," police said.
"Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."
