New Zealand opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has performed for the Royal Family on many occasions, including the time she sang at the wedding of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana in 1981.
Performing for the Royal Family meant the Dame formed a connection with them and Queen Elizabeth II's death greatly impacted her.
"The weight of the grief is so intense throughout the world," Dame Kiri told AM.
Queen Elizabeth died at her Balmoral home on Thursday (local time), aged 96.
When asked about what she admired most about Her Majesty, Dame Kiri said was the fact she had a sense of mysteriousness to her.
"She never gave anything away, she could keep a secret which is wonderful," she told AM.
Dame Kiri said performing for the Royals also didn't make her any more nervous than any other performance she had done.
"It's the same pressure. You have to give the high standard of what you can do the best of."
