Shoppers have captured the dramatic moment a group of robbers smashed a jewellery store display in a popular Hamilton mall.
The thieves took part in the dramatic daylight robbery at Michael Hill at The Base shopping centre at about 11am on Sunday.
The group of about seven or eight people are seen in one video smashing displays and taking handfuls of items, while others stand on and leap over the counter.
In a video from another angle, the group is seen rushing around the store taking what they can while shoppers look on.
Acting Inspector Michael Henwood said Waikato Police are seeking information following the aggravated robbery and want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage that could help with their enquiries.
"Police are following strong lines of enquiry including viewing CCTV footage to establish the damage caused and what was taken," acting Insp Henwood said.
"The community can be assured our staff are working hard to identify the offenders and hold them to account.
"We acknowledge this type of offending causes concern and harm in our community and it will not be tolerated."
Information can be provided to 105 or via Crime Stoppers, referencing file number: 220925/6221.
Meanwhile, a security guard at a different Hamilton mall was injured and taken to hospital after another smash and grab earlier in the day.
At about 5:45am, a group of thieves arrived at Chartwell Shopping Centre and are believed to have smashed their way in, entered multiple stores, and taken numerous items, Detective Senior Sergeant Kristine Clarke said.
A security guard was parked in a car nearby at the time. The group approached the car and assaulted the security guard before leaving the scene.
The guard was taken to hospital for assessment of facial injuries.
"This is a really nasty, gratuitous violence directed at the security guard who had not approached or challenged the offenders," Det Snr Sgt Clarke said.
"We believe the offenders were travelling in a gold, 2005 Nissan Tiida.
"If you are able to help us identify this vehicle, or have any information which could assist us in identifying those responsible, please get in touch with Police as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police via 105, quoting job number P052027266.
