Hundreds of sausage dogs went nose-to-nose in Auckland on Saturday to claim the title of the country's fastest pup.
The 20-metre dash in Auckland's Mount Wellington proved popular, with hundreds of people turning up to catch a glimpse of the action.
It's the sixth year the event has gone ahead, with organiser Sarah-Lee Rashleigh behind it all.
"I thought if I don't do it now, someone's going to beat me to it," she told Newshub. "I brought this pub purely so I could host a sausage race, no other reason!"
Some competitors were nervous.
"He's a bit overwhelmed today," owner Kelley Wigton said. "Not sure how he's going to go. He's never done anything like this before."
Some were confident, while others were just dressed to impress, with some pups donning hotdog and princess outfits.
More than 100 dogs registered for the races. The heats were split up into miniature and standard dachshunds.
And of course, it was taken very seriously.
"We're just going to go TMO," the commentator said. "Make sure everything's alright upstairs, just looking at that replay there."
And if your pup's another breed - don't worry - there's a category for them too.
"We have a 'wannabe wiener' section," Rashleigh said. "They range from chihuahuas to great danes to everything in between."
There were only a few, simple rules. Dogs needed to get from one end to the other. Two handlers were allowed, and they could do whatever they want to entice their dog to the other side.
"The motivating factor was mutt butter treats," one owner told Newshub.
Sir Dave Doggin' didn't quite manage to live up to his name.
"It was a DNF for Dave," owner Blair Phipps told Newshub. "Probably a bit more training needed for next year but we'll be back, stronger than ever."
And after a day of heats, all eyes were on the final. Sumo tasted gold in its category. Kobie and Kasey did too. The podium pups lapped it up.
And for the dogs that didn't quite make it over the line - well, there's always next year.
