Queen Elizabeth death: Newshub reporter Patrick Gower apologises for F-bomb live on air

Newshub National Correspondent Patrick Gower has apologised for dropping an F-bomb on live television while covering Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday night.

The moment came just after the media stand-up with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as she was leaving to get in her private car for the funeral.

As Ardern was walking to the car, the crowd yells "we love you Jacinda".

Gower was shocked by Ardern's fame in London and said "f****, they do know her", while still on air.

Gower apologised on The Project on Tuesday night for his slip but tried to jokingly play off that he said "far out" or "wow".

"Look, the Prime Minister was there, there were a lot of people there and I was quite surprised they knew her, so I was like wow or far out, I think I actually said far out, they do know her far out," he said jokingly.

But presenter Kanoa Lloyd didn't believe him saying, "I think we could rustle up a clip, we could replay it Paddy if you think you said far out".

The Project then rolled the clip showing that he did indeed swear to the amusement of the studio audience.

"Ok, ok everyone makes mistakes. It was nothing against Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister or anything like that but I will take a moment while I'm here to apologise to the Queen, to the Prime Minister, to the people of the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth I'm sorry for my language everyone makes mistakes."
