A terminally-ill father has decided to ask for financial help from his community in Timaru to help cover the cost of his funeral.
Kyle Rule, 42 was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago and lost his job after taking time off work for treatment.
Rule made a Givealittle page with a goal of $10,000, asking the public to help him out in any way they could.
"I worry about the price of my funeral, the financial burden it will have on an already struggling family, and request sincerely any small donation to help me get it sorted before it's time," Rule said on the Givealiitle page.
He added any money left over will be used to try and make memories with his children before he dies.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Givealittle page exceeded the $10,000 target and the page was at $11,640.
The terminally-ill father said few months after his diagnosis he was able to get another job but when the cancer spread it his lung and liver he had to quit.
"Six months on I've had to leave that job due to pain and fatigue, move from our house which was provided and now renting a house that's too small for us and paying dearly for it."
He said he does receive financial support from WINZ but that doesn't get him very far
"I know it's much the same story as some others, but it's mine, and it's been very hard to share."
On Tuesday, Rule posted on the Givealittle page to thank everyone for their donations.
"Please take something from it and look after yourselves, and look out for your [family's] health. thanking you all so much from me and my family."
