Kiwis will get an early taste of summer weather on Sunday, with most of New Zealand bathed in sunshine to end the weekend.
MetService and NIWA are predicting fine weather for the end of the weekend but it'll turn sour with rain and wind on the cards for most of New Zealand next week.
NIWA is predicting fine and cloudy skies on Sunday for large parts of the country with Kaitaia, Whangārei, Gisborne and Masterton being the pick of the places to be.
After a chilly morning, all these places will warm up to reach a temperature of 18 degrees on Sunday, according to MetService.
But after a fine weekend, the weather is set to change with a high-pressure system bringing rain early next week.
NIWA warns it could be windy for parts of the South Island on Sunday and Monday.
"It will become windy in the South Island tomorrow and into Monday," NIWA said.
"That’s because the high pressure that’s bringing settled weather today will give way to low pressure, and gusty northerly winds will develop.
MetService has warned there is a moderate risk of heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island on Monday while there is a low risk for places north of New Plymouth. For the majority of this week.
"The front is preceded by strengthening northerlies and rain, mainly for western and northern parts of both islands, and is followed by showery northwesterlies," MetService warned.
"Also, another front moves northwards across the lower South Island on Tuesday, bringing another burst of rain to the west coast, followed by a southerly change."
