The latest weather forecasts show a mixed bag of conditions for Aotearoa as the week comes to an end and the long weekend approaches.
A low-pressure system to the east of the North Island directed a band of rain across the southern half of the North Island, on Friday.
But MetService said clear skies will be seen over much of the South Island under a ridge of high pressure.
As Saturday approaches showers are expected to be "widespread for a time" with some possibly heavy showers for the North Island.
The South Island will see a bit of cloud with rain, especially along the eastern areas. MetService forecasts an easing of showers on Saturday evening - with other regions expected to see some fine weather.
By Sunday evening, showers are expected to ease for the east and south of the North Island. Other parts of the North Island are forecast to see some good and dry weather conditions.
The South Island will see clouds in the east along with a few showers on Sunday but those are expected to clear.
Metservice meteorologist Peter Little told Newshub by Monday, for Queen Elizabeth's memorial day, most of the country will experience some lovely weather that "won't spoil too many people's plans".
Little said temperatures are expected to hit the early 20s, adding no severe weather events are forecasted this weekend. Nonetheless, he encouraged those heading outside to keep an eye on the forecast.
"Right through the weekend temperatures are looking average to above average."
