The AA has added bicycles to its Roadservice for members to help cyclists if they come into trouble on the roads.
AA Club developments general manager Dougal Swift said the member's benefit would not cost any extra.
"We are pleased to cover even more modes of mobility by adopting Roadservice for push bike breakdowns too."
Bike Auckland chair Tony Mitchell said he is happy more services are available to assist cyclists on the road.
"I'm delighted to see the AA recognising the need to support people on bikes and roadside bicycle breakdown services."
Former New Zealand Cycle Trail chair Richard Leggat agreed it was a 'great initiative' from the association.
"Many cyclists have occasionally had tyre issues that can't be fixed on the spot, having the AA just a phone call away will be a great assistance in this situation."
Mitchell said people have been using bicycles more and more to live more sustainably.
"This trend is seeing local governments and increasing numbers of people move towards more active modes of transport such as biking, walking, scooting and public transport."
The Roadservice for bicycles will include tyre tube repair, replacements and a bike recovery service.
The bike will most likely be fixed by a service officer on the road unless extra support is needed where the AA member and their bike would be transported to somewhere the bike can be repaired more thoroughly.
