A man has been injured after being shot in south Auckland on Tuesday night.
Armed police swarmed the suburb of Favona just before 9pm after reports a male was in a serious condition on Wakefield Road after being shot.
"They were transported to Middlemore Hospital and are currently recovering in a stable condition," a police spokesperson said.
"Police have been conducting a scene examination at the address overnight, which will continue this morning."
The spokesperson said enquires are ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Police confirmed Commissioner Andrew Coster was among the officers at the scene who was understood to be on a ride-along with Counties Manukau staff.
Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.
