A central Auckland suburb has made its way onto a UK magazine's list of top 51 coolest neighbourhoods in the world.
Whether you are in search of the perfect sourdough pizza, or just enjoy historical architecture, Kingsland may be the right place for you, said Timeout UK.
Sitting at 43 on their list of best neighbourhoods to be in, Auckland's very own Kingsland ranked higher than Haut-Marais in Paris, France, Branda West in Mumbai, India, and a handful of others.
Timeout UK polled thousands of people and coupled their views with local editors and writers.
"You won't see flashy franchises here" stated the judges. "The string of historic buildings down New North Road houses everything from vintage stores to sourdough pizzerias and late-night dessert cafes."
The magazine said that those neighbourhoods featured were included because of their accessibility, cutting-edge culture, and nightlife.
Neighbourhoods that took out the top prizes were Colonia Americana in Guadalajara, Mexico, Cais do Sodré in Lisbon, Portugal, and Wat Bo Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
"Although we haven't been able to travel the world as we freely once did, billions of us have been spending time more than ever closer to home. And in many of the world's greatest cities, the result has been a full-blown neighbourhood renaissance."
Kingsland was described as being "centred around all things local" - its abundance of eclectic bars and restaurants making it a haven for lovers of variety and creativity.
"Kingsland's eclectic food scene is second to none. Peruse menus from family-run Jordanian or Jamaican restaurants or settle in at an intimate Italian spot."
Judges made mention of Eden park - New Zealand's largest stadium - which lies furtively close to Kingsland's favourite eateries, bars, and restaurants.
They said that Eden Park "offsets the general bohemian vibe with steady streams of fans bound for sports games, concerts and exhibitions".
Sports lovers are expected in droves in the following weeks and months as Eden Park continues to host the Women's Rugby World Cup. The stadium will also host the Fifa Women's World Cup next July.
