Just one region in New Zealand reported a decrease in the number of new COVID-19 cases week on week, while one area saw a massive increase over the same period.
The Ministry of Health announced earlier on Monday there were 14,311 new COVID-19 cases from Monday, October 10 to Sunday, October 16.
There was a slight jump in the total number of new COVID-19 cases from the week before, which covered the period from Monday, October 3 to Sunday, October 9. For this week, there were 11,205 new community cases announced.
Some regions saw a massive jump between this week's numbers and the previous week, the largest of which was in Capital and Coast. Last week it reported 1000 COVID-19 cases, but this week the number of new cases jumped to 1568, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
Counties Manukau had the second highest rise, increasing from 1177 new cases to 1655 this week - a difference of 478. In third was Waitematā, which jumped from 1647 to 2078 - an increase of 431.
Hutt Valley had a week-on-week increase of 275 new cases, Auckland jumped 217, and Canterbury was up 193.
Ten regions had increases of less than 100, including Whanganui, Wairarapa, and Tairāwhiti which had week-on-week differences of 10 or fewer.
But just one area recorded a decrease in the week-on-week number of new COVID-19 cases. Lakes reported 228 new cases last week compared to 222 this week - a decrease of six.
The data comes as the Ministry of Health said 185 people remained in hospital over the Monday, October 10 to Sunday, October 16 period, as well as a further 34 virus-related deaths over the same time.
