Emergency services have rushed to Auckland Airport on Sunday morning after a "suspicious package" was found.

A police spokesperson said a suspicious package has been located during routine scanning at a warehouse building in Auckland.

Police said the warehouse is at Auckland Airport, but is separate to the terminals and is not a public area.

"There is no threat to the public, and staff working in the warehouse have cleared the building while the Defence Force responds," the spokesperson said.

"Access to the airport is not affected, however some roads near the warehouse are blocked."

Auckland Transport said on Twitter that stops near Auckland Airport Domestic Terminal were closed because of a "police incident" but are now fully open.

A Fire and Emergency Spokesperson FENZ was alerted to an incident near the airport at 7.50am, according to the NZ Herald.

”Two fire trucks are currently in attendance at this incident. This incident is ongoing".

Auckland Airport told Newshub the incident is not having an impact on arrival or departing flights on Sunday morning.
