A woman has been arrested and charged after a man was found dead in a vehicle on a quiet South Auckland street on Sunday night.
In a statement, police said a homicide investigation is underway in Wattle Downs following the death of a man in a vehicle overnight.
Police were called to Hobart Crescent at 10:42pm on Sunday where officers found a man dead.
Detective Inspector Karen Bright from Counties Manukau CIB said they have arrested a 41-year-old woman in relation to the murder.
"This woman has now been charged with murder and is expected to appear in the Manukau District Court today," Bright said.
"Police are not currently seeking anyone further in relation to the death, however a number of enquiries remain ongoing."
Footage from the scene shows police setting up a cordon, which blocked off a cul-de-sac in Wattle Downs.
Neighbours said they heard a man screaming and saw him gasping for air before he died.
One woman told Stuff she heard "a woman screaming and the revving of a van or car engine" at around midnight.
Another neighbour, who called emergency services, told Stuff he saw a black SUV with a man and woman inside the vehicle come to a stop on Hobart Crescent after 10.30pm on Sunday.
"A woman was yelling, but we couldn't understand her, but after about five minutes she was saying someone was bleeding."
Emergency responders asked the man to try to stop the bleeding but he initially declined in fear there were weapons present but eventually changed his mind.
"By the time I got out there [the victim] was just gasping. You could see the top of his chest and torso was really soaking with something, I gather it was blood
Bright said Wattle Downs residents can expect to see a continued Police presence in the area on Monday.
She added a post-mortem and formal identification will also be carried out in due course.
Bright urged anyone with information about the murder to come forward and speak to police.
"Anyone who has not yet spoken with Police, and has information that may assist our enquiries, can contact us on 105 quoting the file number 221010/9097.
"As this matter is now before the Court, Police are limited in further comment on this matter."
