Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate Auckland's Costco store on Sunday after a commercial oven tripped the fire alarm.
Crews were called to the newly-opened mega retail shop just before 4pm, Fire and Emergency (FENZ) told Newshub, with two fire trucks and one aerial unit responding.
On arrival, no fire was found but further investigation found that smoke from a commercial oven had activated the alarm. The incident was deemed a false alarm, FENZ said.
Videos posted to the Costco NZ Fans Facebook page show hundreds of people leaving the store as the fire alarm blares through the building.
The Auckland store only opened on Wednesday, where eager customers queued overnight to be among the first inside.
Since then, throngs of people have crowded the shopfloor each day in the hopes of snapping up a bargain.
