A person has died after being hit by a car in south Auckland on Tuesday morning.
Police said emergency services rushed to the intersection of Mahia Road and Sandwick Drive in the Auckland suburb of Weymouth at about 5am.
Police said the road is closed and it is expected to remain shut for some time with diversions in place.
They ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.
