Portable speakers should be banned from New Zealand beaches, Patrick Gower says.
The Newshub national correspondent, who's filling in as AM co-host for Ryan Bridge this week, said he'd ban sound systems from every beach around the country if he had the authority to do so.
Gower's comments came as he and fellow co-hosts Melissa Chan-Green and Nicky Styris were discussing places where people should be quiet and not disturb the peace.
"I'll tell you one: the beach," Gower said. "Look, if I was in power - which I'm not yet - I would ban sound systems from every beach.
"I include lakes in that actually, not just the coastline."
Gower said he'd also go as far as banning phones from the beach altogether and putting a "Bluetooth jammer" in place.
"In fact, I want phones banned from the beach - you should not be on your phone at the beach - that's going [for] a broader screentime ban… unless you want to catch up on AM," he added.
