Bailey Messervy, accused of stabbing man walking his dog in Christchurch, granted request to be kept apart from adult prisoners

An 18-year-old accused of stabbing a man walking his dog in a Christchurch park on Monday morning can now be named after making his first court appearance.

The brutal attack at Christchurch's Bexley Reserve left the man with critical injuries.

Raids were carried out on Corhampton St on Wednesday afternoon - about 500m away from the scene of the attack - which resulted in 18-year-old Bailey Messervy being charged.

Messervy, who was remanded in custody after appearing in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday, is accused of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He appeared in court via audiovisual link, wearing an orange prison suit.

Judge Michelle Duggan granted a request from the accused for him to be kept apart from adult prisoners.

A 23-year-old woman has also been charged with being an accessory after the fact in relation to the stabbing.

The victim remains in Christchurch Hospital.
