COVID-19: 24,068 new community cases, 40 virus-related deaths, 344 people in hospital, three in ICU

There are 24,068 new community cases of COVID-19 and a further 40 virus-related deaths over the past week, the Ministry of Health has revealed.

The Ministry of Health said a child under the age of 10 was one of the 40 virus-related deaths over the past week.

The Health Ministry gave the update, which covered the seven-day period from Monday, November 14 to Sunday, November 20, on Monday.

The Health Ministry said 325 people remained in hospital with the virus, three of whom were in intensive care.

There are now a total of 2182 deaths confirmed as attributable to COVID-19, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributing factor. 

Overall, New Zealand has reported just over 1.9 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Last week the Health Ministry reported 21,595 new community cases, 56 virus-related deaths, 322 people in hospital and eight in ICU.
