The man accused of an overnight hit and run which critically injured a police officer is a former reality star.
The man was taken into custody on Wednesday night and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, failing to stop a motor vehicle, and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.
He appeared in Manukau District Court on Thursday where the Judge granted him name suppression until his next appearance on November 28.
The injured officer is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Police told Newshub they started tracking an allegedly stolen vehicle around 7:20pm on Wednesday night and around 30 minutes later spiked it near the corner of Manukau Station Road and Osterley Way. It was at this time the officer was hit by the vehicle.
The car then continued driving before it was found a short time later near Grafton Road. The alleged driver was found and taken into custody after 9pm on Khyber Pass Road.
Counties Manukau district commander Superintendent Jill Rogers said the officer is in hospital with serious injuries.
"Our thoughts are with the officer and their family. Ensuring they are supported is our priority," Rogers said.
"This was a traumatic incident for those involved and I want to acknowledge the support offered by the officer's colleagues and members of the public."
She said an investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact police on 105, quoting file number 221109/7621. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
