Napier police have launched a homicide investigation and are searching for an offender after a woman died in the early hours of Friday morning.
The woman was found unresponsive at around 4:25am at a residential address on Nuffield Avenue, Marewa.
A police spokesperson said the woman later died at the scene.
In a statement, police say they cannot provide details about the identity of the woman but plan to do so in due course.
The offender involved in the incident has not yet been located by police, the spokesperson said they are following "a number of lines of inquiry".
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 105, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
