A New Zealander has been charged in Australia after exposing himself and urinating on the floor from his seat on a flight from Bali.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have charged the 72-year-old New Zealand man, who was travelling from Bali to Brisbane on Wednesday night, with offensive behaviour.
The AFP said the man consumed "a number of small bottles of wine during the flight" and then exposed himself and urinated on the floor while sitting in his seat as the plane descended into Brisbane.
He was met at the airport by AFP officers and issued with an infringement for disorderly behaviour in public. He then appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty. The man was sentenced to a 12-month good behaviour bond.
AFP airport police commander at Brisbane Airport, Superintendent Mark Colbran, said there was no excuse for what he described as "disgraceful behaviour".
"Antisocial or illegal behaviour is unacceptable in any setting and the AFP will not tolerate it at Australia's airports," he said.
"The AFP expects passengers to be responsible when consuming alcohol – families and other travellers have a right to feel safe.''
In these situations, the police encourage the public to share information or footage of incidents to help with investigations.
It comes after rugby player Zakir Slaimankhel, a New Zealander, was caught on video arguing with a flight attendant at Bali's Denpasar Airport. He later accused Qantas staff of "appalling customer service" and of making "rude and condescending" remarks towards his wife "[a] Muslim who wears a hijab".
However, Qantas has denied its staff acted inappropriately and said that was supported by other passengers. The airline said the rugby player was removed from the aircraft after verbally abusing a crew member.
