One person is dead and multiple others injured after a crash involving a speeding vehicle, a bus and a police car on Saturday night.
Shortly before the crash, staff in the patrol vehicle saw a vehicle travelling at excess speed on SH1, Warkworth at around 6:30pm.
Police said after they signalled for it to stop, it veered into the bus carrying around 40 people.
The driver is dead and an officer has moderate injuries. Police say one person on the bus has moderate injuries and several others have minor injuries.
"Police staff will now work to support all of those involved in the crash," Waitematā District Commander Superintendent Naila Hassan said in a statement.
"The serious crash unit is examining the scene and will establish the full circumstances of what has occurred. The IPCA will also be notified."
