Police have released CCTV images of the male accused of fatally stabbing an Auckland dairy worker.
The images show the man at a payphone wearing all dark clothing, black shoes, a cap and a long-sleeved top.
A police spokesperson said the black pants the man is wearing have white writing down the left leg, along with a black and white bandana across his face.
Police believe the white writing on the cap and pants reads "raiders".
Police said they continue to appeal to those in the Sandringham community who may know the man and are urging anyone who may recognise him to contact them.
Those with information can contact police on 105 and quote file number 221123/3847.
People can also email opbluebell@police.govt.nz.
Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
Earlier, police released further details surrounding the fatal stabbing as police piece together the events leading up to it.
Auckland City CIB Detective Inspector Scott Beard said their enquiries have established the robbery took place at around 8pm on Wednesday.
Det Insp Beard said the offender then left the store with the cash register drawer and walked about 100 metres toward Duncan Ave.
"He is seen on CCTV footage stopping at a household wheelie bin and placing the drawer inside."
Det Insp Beard said the victim approached the man at the wheelie bin where an altercation took place.
"At which time the victim has received several stab wounds," Det Insp Beard.
"The victim has managed to make his way back to the dairy where emergency services were called, and first aid administered."
Beard urged anyone with CCTV or who was driving in the area to come forward and speak to police
"I want to acknowledge the members of the community at the scene after it happened," Beard said.
"We still want to hear from people in the community who have CCTV or were driving around at the time.
"It was still daylight, so anybody who has seen something, please contact the police. It's possible the man was walking around in the area after the offence."
Beard said the victim is a 34-year-old male.
Sandringham Neighbourhood Support coordinator John McCaffery told RNZ they supported the superette owners' attempts to get more security, but police turned them down.
McCaffery said the group was working with the owner to get fog cannons and other services.
"We wrote a letter for him to approach the police, and he did that," he told RNZ's Morning Report.
"We believe that twice he was visited or contacted by the police and turned down as not being a priority. They didn't give him the reasons but I know that everyone was really distressed that there was no support coming."
Earlier in the morning, crowds gathered in solidarity in Sandringham following the fatal stabbing of a dairy worker.
Dairy and Business Association chair Sunny Kaushal spoke passionately about the lack of action the Government has done to keep dairy workers safe
He also revealed the young man killed was "recently married" and it's understood he was a cousin of the owners of the dairy who had recently gone back to India.
"Right now, our thoughts are with the family," said Kaushal, as he spoke from the middle of the street.
"We stand for each other, we are one community and one family."
People who gathered left bouquets of flowers outside the shop as police continued their scene examination.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who has come under heavy criticism for a lack of action by the Government, posted on Instagram saying no one "should fear their loved one going to work".
"No one should have to confront such senseless violence or crime. To the family who today mourns their lost loved one - I am so sorry this has happened," Ardern posted on Instagram.
"I know our Sandringham Community is a tight-knit one, and they will be feeling this deeply too. "Our job as Government is to make sure those who commit such crimes are brought to justice, and to try and prevent them occurring at all. On both counts, we will keep doing all we can."
One local who spoke passionately at the vigil said the Government needs to be doing more to keep his community safe
"I lived all my life in Sandringham. All my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are all here, now we have to barricade ourselves in our own property, why?
"The National Government is fighting the election next year, they're hoping to get in, are they able to say look, when we come into Parliament we are going to hang all the murders."
Former Dairy Owner Shobhana Ranchhodjr said a constant fear of crime is what drove her out of the industry.
Ranchhodjr told Newshub the Sandringham Rose Cottage Superette is her local dairy.
"The family is our dairy owner. They are there for a quick chat. If we run out, that's our saviour, that's our saviour shop," Ranchhodjr said.
