An offender remains at large after a fatal stabbing at an Auckland dairy overnight
Emergency services were called to the Sandringham Rose Cottage Superette just after 8pm, when the offender entered the store armed with a knife, stabbed the worker and took the cash register.
The worker suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.
Insp Danny Meade said the incident is a shock for the community - who know the dairy well.
Meade added officers are undertaking an "extensive" investigation to identify and locate the offender.
"We know this incident will be extremely concerning and unsettling for our community," he said.
Meade said a cordon would remain in place and nearby residents should expect a significant police presence while officers conducted a scene examination.
Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have seen something that could help police identify or locate the offender, was urged to call 105 and quote file number P052703294.
