Shocking footage has emerged showing a Bay of Plenty teenager stealing a bus before taking it for a joy ride.
Video posted on the social media app TikTok shows a teenager sitting in the driver's seat of an empty school bus.
One of his schoolmates, who filmed the video, can be heard exclaiming, "[He] just stole a f***ing bus! What the f**k?"
The teen in the driver's seat then encouraged their mate to hop on the bus for a joyride but they declined.
"I am not getting pulled over by some f***ing cops," they said before questioning where the teen got the bus.
The teenager again suggested their friend get on the bus before revealing, "I have been driving around the whole motu."
At the end of the video, the teenager drove off down the road.
The video has over 100,000 likes and over 7000 comments.
Police said the bus was taken on September 30 and the young person has been referred to youth services.
"A youth gained entry to a bus and proceeded to drive the vehicle around the Western Bay area.
"The bus was recovered and the youth was spoken to and referred to youth services. There was some minor cosmetic damage caused to the exterior of the vehicle," a spokesperson said.
"We encourage anyone who witnesses a crime to contact Police on 111 if it is happening now, or 105 after the fact."
