Investigation underway after man arrives at south Auckland police station with body in car

An investigation has been launched after a body was found in a vehicle near Manukau police station on Friday.

"This afternoon, after 1:10pm, a man arrived at the station in a vehicle and approached the front counter," Det Insp Karen Bright said in a statement on Friday.

"Shortly afterwards, police have located a person deceased in the vehicle."

Bright added the man who approached the front counter is in police custody and is assisting with investigations.

"Police are also at a Māngere Bridge address on Mona Ave as part of our enquiries," Bright said.

People living in the area should expect an increase in the number of police officers there over the next few days, while a scene examination is conducted, Bright said.
