An 18-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a newborn baby by jumping on the infant at a Christchurch park will continue to keep his name suppressed.
The man is facing a common assault charge after allegedly attacking a mother and her baby at Scarborough Park in the suburb of Sumner at the weekend.
He was remanded on bail on Wednesday and would next appear in the Christchurch District Court on January 12.
Witness Gamal Fouda, the Imam of Christchurch's Al Noor Mosque, earlier thanked members of the public for stepping in to assist following the attack.
