A man has been found seriously injured on the side of a road after an assault following a verbal altercation with a group of people in vehicles.
The public's help is now being sought to find those responsible for the assault in the Auckland region.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to the intersection of Falls and Hudson Rds in the town of Warkworth at about 11:30pm Friday after a report of a verbal altercation between a man and a group of people in vehicles.
Shortly after, the man was found seriously injured on the side of the road and was taken to the hospital. He remains in a critical but stable condition.
Police said officers are now working to establish what has happened and to locate those who are responsible.
"We are asking anyone with information about how this man came to be injured to come forward and speak with us," the spokesperson said.
"We'd also like to hear from anyone in the area around Falls Rd and Hudson Rd who witnessed vehicles driving dangerously around the time of the incident and who may have information about them or those driving."
