MetService has issued a number of weather watches for the top of the North Island, saying some may be upgraded to warnings.
After what MetService has described as "settled weather" for the start of the week, from Wednesday things may get a little wet.
MetService meteorologist Jessie Owen told Newshub rain is on its way from the North, expected to bring some "significant periods of heavy rain".
From 9am Wednesday to 12pm Thursday, eastern Northland and Auckland north of Whangaparaoa have been issued with a heavy rain watch.
Auckland about and north of Whangaparaoa has been issued with a strong wind watch from 6pm Wednesday to 3pm Thursday, likely to be strong winds coming from the east.
Moving east, Coromandel Peninsula has been issued a 35-hour heavy rain watch from 10am Wednesday to 9pm Thursday.
Owen told Newshub the watch may be upgraded to a warning "closer to the time".
"We're expecting some more significant period of heavy rain on Thursday."
Bay of Plenty west of Tauranga has been issued with a heavy rain watch too, from 12pm Wednesday to 12am Thursday.
The meteorologist said the watches and possible warnings are "likely to be confined" to the top of the north, but later in the week the West Coast of the South could see some heavy rain.
