One person has died and another is seriously injured after a crash in South Wairarapa on Wednesday.
Police were notified of the two-vehicle crash on Ponatahi Road, near Carterton, at around 8:35am.
Tragically, one person died at the scene and a second person was seriously injured.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised and the road is expected to be closed for some time to allow emergency services to attend.
Diversions are in place at Ponatahi Road and Kokotau Road, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
This latest fatal crash comes after a person died and another was seriously injured in a crash in the Bay of Plenty on Wednesday morning.
With nearly two weeks still to go, Ministry of Transport figures show this year's provisional road toll sits at 363 deaths.
