Person hospitalised after 'alarming' firearms incident in Invercargill

A person has been injured after a firearms incident in Invercargill on Saturday evening. 

Police said the incident occurred on Earn Street at about 7:20pm. 

A person turned themselves into the hospital with injuries following the firearms incident but is expected to be discharged on Sunday afternoon, police said. 

Detective Sergeant Mark McCloy said the Armed Offenders Squad attended the incident as a precautionary measure.

"Multiple scene examinations are ongoing today [Sunday] as Police work to determine the circumstances," McCloy said. 

Police said no one has been arrested yet. 

McCloy is asking anyone with information about the firearms incident to come forward and speak to them. 

"Police are appealing for anyone who saw a white Toyota Camry 2006 in the Earn Street area at the time of the incident," McCloy said.

McCloy thanked Invercargill residents for their patience and cooperation.

"Events such as this can be alarming and unsettling for those living in the vicinity," McCloy said.

"Police want to reassure the community we take incidents like these very seriously and will work to hold offenders to account."
