A 23-year-old Upper Hutt man has been arrested after allegedly seriously injuring a person with a weapon outside a mall last month.
On Friday, November 18, emergency services were called to an altercation between a group of people outside the Upper Hutt mall. As a result, one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police said a search warrant was executed on Thursday at an Upper Hutt address, where a 23-year-old was located and arrested.
The man is due to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court on January 10, charged with assault with a weapon.
Det Snr Sgt Martin Todd said the "great work" by the Hutt Valley Criminal Investigation Branch and assistance from members of the public led police to identify the man and arrest him.
"Hutt Valley area staff have been dedicated to locating the person allegedly responsible for this act of violence and we are glad to be able to hold them to account on behalf of the community."
Todd added this type of offending "is not acceptable" and the damage caused "will not be tolerated".
