There are 13,880 new community cases of COVID-19 and a further 79 virus-related deaths over the past week, the Ministry of Health has revealed.
The Health Ministry gave the update, which covered the seven-day period from Monday, January 16 to Sunday, January 22, on Tuesday.
The Health Ministry also revealed a child under 10 was among the 79 deaths.
The Health Ministry said 242 people remained in hospital with the virus, seven of whom were in intensive care.
There are now a total of 2468 deaths confirmed as attributable to COVID-19, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributing factor.
Overall, New Zealand has reported over 2.1 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
Last week the Health Ministry reported 19,179 new community cases, 57 virus-related deaths, 333 people in hospital and eight in ICU.
