A man died at a beach in the Coromandel on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services responded to a report of a man missing in the water at a Whangamatā beach, near the estuary, shortly before 6pm on Tuesday.
A rescue helicopter found the man, but sadly he could not be revived.
"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones," a police spokesperson said.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
