A person has died and another is injured after a crash on State Highway 1 near Dunedin on Monday evening.
Police said in a statement a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway One and Thomas Street in Waikouaiti was reported at 11.20pm.
A person died at the scene, while another was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A police spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash, which has caused the road to be down to one lane and operating under stop/go traffic management.
Police urge motorists to avoid the area if possible or expect delays.
