The police are asking the public for help to find a man from Palmerston North who has been missing since Christmas Eve.

Philip Lucas, 69, was last seen at Palmerston North Hospital on Christmas Eve at around 8:30am.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson said in a statement on Wednesday the 69-year-old's family are very concerned for his wellbeing as it is unusual for him to not be in touch during the Christmas period.

"We believe at the time of his last sighting he did not have any money or his bankcards so his ability to move about is limited," Det Snr Sgt Thompson said.

Police described Lucas as "Caucasian of medium build, receding grey hair collar length at the back, and he has a moustache".

Before he went missing Lucas was wearing a blue jersey, cream-coloured long pants, brown dress shoes and either a blue or black rain jacket. He was also wearing glasses.

"We want to hear from anyone that has seen Philip or anyone matching the description in the area surrounding the hospital," said Det Snr Sgt Thompson.

Police suggested people living near the hospital check if the 69-year-old might be there.

"This includes rental properties, commercial premises and building sites."

Police urged anyone with any information about the missing man to contact them on 105 and quote the file number 221225/7238.
