Police have released a description of a man they're searching for following an assault at Tōtara Park in south Auckland.
The assault happened at around 11am on Tuesday, and police swarmed the area around the neighbouring Auckland Botanical Gardens. The victim has minor injuries.
A cordon was in place while the area was searched to find the offender, although these have now been stood down, Counties Manukau CIB Detective Inspector Karen Bright said.
"The investigation is currently ongoing. The offender is described as being male, in his 20s, of chubby build and wearing a dark blue T-shirt," she said.
"Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen this male, or any suspicious activity in the Tōtara Park area."
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Police on 105, quoting P053329256.
Just after police swarmed the park, one person on Facebook said she was asked by officers to evacuate the off-leash area for dogs at the botanical gardens because they were "searching for someone who was seen with a knife".
Multiple others said the police helicopter was circling the area "for ages".
