A section of State Highway 7 in Canterbury is closed following a serious crash involving a horse float.
The crash, near Balmoral in the Hurunui District, involved two vehicles and was reported to police just before 1:30pm on Sunday, a spokesperson said.
"Emergency services are in attendance, one person is reported to have been seriously injured," the police spokesperson said.
"A horse float was involved in the crash and at this time the horses are being assessed by a vet."
Waka Kotahi NZTA said the road is currently closed between School Rd in Culverden and Balmoral Station Rd. There is a diversion in place.
Motorists are asked to allow additional time for their journey as there are delays in the area.
