A wild foot chase in Auckland's Papatoetoe has gone viral on TikTok after police were caught on camera chasing the offenders at full speed.
On Monday, a video was uploaded to the social media app by a person with the username @jstshuuushh. The clip showed two police officers running across Kohuora Park trying to catch up to two others who were sprinting away.
At the start of the video, one of the officers trips and skids on the grass before taking off again and resuming the foot chase.
At the end of the video, one of the officers reaches an offender, while the other continues to run away.
In a statement, police told Newshub the incident began after they found a stolen vehicle near Kohuora Park in Papatoetoe just after 6pm on Monday.
"Both occupants initially fled on foot from our staff through the park but were soon taken into custody," police told Newshub.
Police said the two occupants have been referred to Youth Aid.
Several people commented on the TikTok video about how fast the offenders were running.
"He was gunning it for a bit," one commented. Another said: "Y'all considered recruiting the one that got away. Don't lie."
A third commented: "You never stop running uso. Court case immediately."
Another person also commented how hilarious it was they were caught, even after the officer fell over.
"Imagine getting a head start, them falling over and still catching yo ass lol," the user commented.
At the time of publishing, the TikTok video has been viewed more than 240,000 times and has received over 13,000 likes.
