Auckland Emergency Management is warning people to be aware of scammers after receiving reports of people posing as officials to scope out flood-affected properties.
In a press conference on Saturday, Auckland Emergency Management said it had received reports of scams and people posing as officials.
"If you are being visited by someone in some official capacity please make sure you check their identification. They should be able to identify with the organisation that they are reporting to represent."
When asked by media what the nature of the scams were, Auckland Emergency Management said: "I don't have the absolute information, we have just had some reports come in where people have been concerned about people perhaps going to scope out properties and things like that… wearing a sort of official badge or attire that may not be legitimate."
They added if people are coming to your house to discuss insurance or assess the property for damage, "to check they actually have the right identification for the work that they are proposing they are going to do".
Auckland Emergency Management said as of Saturday morning there are 253 red-stickered properties and 1351 yellow-stickered properties which were affected by last Friday's devastating floods.
"We do have around about 80 building inspectors on the ground today revisiting some red-placarded properties and just picking up any others that have come to our attention," Auckland Emergency Management said.
"Just a reminder if you have got a property that has been impacted by floodwaters and you haven't been visited by an inspector please reach out to us so we can organise for that to happen."
People can contact the emergency management team by calling 0800 22 22 00.
The state of emergency for Auckland was also extended on Thursday by another seven days following flash floods and copious amounts of rain throughout the week.
