Kiwis should expect a mixed bag of weather on Monday with rain, cloud and sun highlighting Waitangi Day.
WeatherWatch said a front is moving over the North Island on Monday before clearing away to the northeast.
WeatherWatch said the west of the North Island will see showers in the morning before it starts to clear. Northerlies are expected to change to the southwest before the sun makes an appearance.
"Showers may not clear some places in the northeast till later this evening (Bay Of Plenty through to Northland). Morning cloud in the east brings a few spots of rain, clearing to sun this afternoon," WeatherWatch said.
It's similar in the South Island, with rain along the West Coast, especially in the far south on Monday morning before easing to showers in the afternoon or evening.
These areas should see the sun before dusk, but winds will be quite gusty from the west or southwest, but they will ease.
WeatherWatch said Nelson and Marlborough will have mostly sunny weather on Waitangi Day, while Canterbury will see sunny skies with northwesterlies. The wind might change to the south in the afternoon and there could be some cloud.
MetService said New Zealanders can expect much more settled weather across New Zealand for the next couple of days.
